10:1 Why, Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?1
10:2 The wicked arrogantly chase the oppressed;2
the oppressed are trapped3 by the schemes the wicked have dreamed up.4
10:3 Yes,5 the wicked man6 boasts because he gets what he wants;7
the one who robs others8 curses9 and10 rejects the Lord.11
10:4 The wicked man is so arrogant he always thinks,
God wont hold me accountable; he doesnt care.12
10:5 He is secure at all times.13
He has no regard for your commands;14
he disdains all his enemies.15
I will never17 be upended,
because I experience no calamity.18
10:7 His mouth is full of curses and deceptive, harmful words;19
his tongue injures and destroys.20
10:8 He waits in ambush near the villages;21
in hidden places he kills the innocent.
His eyes look for some unfortunate victim.22
10:9 He lies in ambush in a hidden place, like a lion in a thicket;23
he lies in ambush, waiting to catch24 the oppressed;
he catches the oppressed25 by pulling in his net.26
10:10 His victims are crushed and beaten down;
they are trapped in his sturdy nets.27
God overlooks it;
he does not pay attention;
he never notices.29
O God, strike him down!31
Do not forget the oppressed!
10:13 Why does the wicked man reject God?32
He says to himself,33 You34 will not hold me accountable.35
10:14 You have taken notice,36
for37 you always see38 one who inflicts pain and suffering.39
The unfortunate victim entrusts his cause to you;40
you deliver41 the fatherless.42
10:15 Break the arm43 of the wicked and evil man!
Hold him accountable for his wicked deeds,44
which he thought you would not discover.45
10:16 The Lord rules forever!46
The nations are driven out of his land.47
10:17 Lord, you have heard48 the request49 of the oppressed;
you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.50
10:18 You defend51 the fatherless and oppressed,52
so that mere mortals may no longer terrorize them.53
